Queens Public Library founded the QueensMemoryprogram in 2010 to preserve a record of life in Queens, oneof thefive boroughs of New York City and home to one of the mostdiversepopulations in the world.The Queens Memory team collaborates with community memberstocollect oral histories, photographs, and other mementos to shareonDigitalArchives.QueensLibrary.org. Staff and volunteercuratorsexhibit donated items in public galleries onQueensMemory.org andsome of these items join the library’scollections in the DigitalPublic Library of America.This App is a tool for submitting images and audio recordings fromamobile device directly to Queens Library staff for review.Approvedphotos and audio documenting Queens history will join thelibrary’spermanent archival collections, where they will be freelyavailableto researchers. Anyone can contribute to our collections.If youknow people living remarkable lives in Queens, you canrecordinterviews with them, take portraits of them, or digitizetheirhistoric photos and upload them using this simple App. QueensMemoryalso collects “wild sound” ambient recordings of publicplaces andevents in Queens, such as busy street corners orfestivals. Expectevery 15 minutes of audio recording to take abouta minute toupload.
